MY 2 WEEK TURNAROUND….
A couple Saturday night’s ago (2/10), I played full-court basketball with some friends for about 2hours. Magilla reserved a full-court for a couple hours and invited a few friends. His few friends ended up becoming 21 people and we were able to play 2 x 5on5 games. These courts are slightly shorter, however, a full-court setup. Funny b/c I can barely dribble a ball down court, shoot, or do a layup….
So a lot of running, starting/stopping. Not my cup of tea. Even when I do cardio, I rarely break 4.0mph for any sustained period of time. Cardio would be a bit of a stretch, I always to the ‘fat burning’ mode on the treadmill and elliptical. The whole running thing people do, just doesn’t click for me. Speed walking, yes. Running, no. So running back and forth for ~2hrs was a bit of a shock to my body that night and for the following week.
Magilla said he was gonna reserve another court for 2weeks later….2/24…
I woke up the following morning feeling like a truck hit me. It was bad. My knees probably took the most abuse from all the running and jumping. I could barely walk up or down stairs without whincing. My back was all jacked-up too.
Well, I took the following week off from working out to recover. Of course, this was the week we received a ton of snowfall, so lots of shoveling and snowblowing. I think we had snowfall Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday of that week. I swear it was between 1 to 2 feet of total snowfall. Since I was still housesitting my parents’ home, I was clearing 2 drives each snowfall, theirs and my own. This might have helped loosen me up a bit, b/c I wasn’t just sitting on my butt complaining about how much everything hurt.
So, at the advice of my brother-in-law, Jun, I should try sprinting or something to help build my short spurts of cardio endurance.
On Monday, Feb19th, I tried some interval running/walking on a treadmill. Walk for a min for 3.0mph and run 5.0mph for a min. I did this for like 15minutes and walked out the remaining 15min. It only amounted to about 1.57miles for 256.6calories. But I broke a good sweat….
Tuesday, Feb20th, I took off.
Wednesday, Feb 21st, I was at it again, but this time the trainer at my company’s fitness center showed me how to program the treadmill to automatically adjust between 3.0mph and 5.0mph at 45sec intervals. He recommended doing 30sec intervals of maintaining >120strides per min and >180strides per min on an elliptical. A lot less stress on my joints, especially my knees.
I probably did about 13min on the treadmill before hopping on the elliptical.
From 20min of interval training on the elliptical, I was able to knock out 1.88 miles for 214.9 calories.
Thursday, Feb22nd, I worked out shoulders and no cardio. I took Sop to Lifetime for about 1hr of family pool time. She had a great playing in the water and expended a lot of energy… I quote, “i tired too dada”….
Friday, Feb23rd, I did the elliptical for 30min for 2.08miles for 369.5 calories.
Saturday, Feb 24th, no workout. Magilla said he couldn’t get a court reserved for Saturday, but maybe for Sunday…
Sunday, Feb 25th, Magilla text’d me that he reserved a court from 6 to 8pm….. Took Melissa and Sop to The Melting Pot for late lunch and went to Costco….
I ended up arriving about 45min later after Costco…. I was hoping that they had already started so they would be sort of winded and give me that fresh leg edge over them….. Nope. There was delay and they hadn’t started yet.
We ended up waiting for a court and played 1.5hr. We slowed down the pace and played 4 on 4…..
I was able to keep up and didn’t get winded as bad as I had 2weeks before. I even scored a few baskets about 2ft out…. I missed a few too, unguarded, but we’ll sweep those details under the rug….
So, it’s about 10:24am on Monday, Feb26th, and I’m a little sore, but no where like I was 2weeks ago….
Magilla is trying to get another court 2weeks from this weekend….
PEACE,
