05.27.09…. toy sale fundraiser

Thank you to the St George 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders of Tinley Park for donating and participating in a toy sale with proceeds going to Analise’s benefit fund.  Thank you to Gloria Hollendoner, all the parents and especially to Maureen & her daughter, Rosemary, for hosting this event at their home.   While Melissa was at a dental appointment, I dropped by the toy sale to introduce Analise and Sophia and to say thank you for everyone’s kindness and prayers for Analise and our family.

Need to run to the Cancer Support Center for a counseling appointment, have a good day and God Bless!

05.22.09….chemo today

Busy day yesterday.  Sop’s last day of preschool.  She’ll have 1 more year until kindergarten and she’ll switch to the 3day program.  Melissa brought Ana to my parents and went to work herself.  After scooping Sop from school, we picked up some Subway sandwiches and headed home for a few.  While Sop ate, I finished up a conference call with work and then started the pool filter.  I added another stop valve, dropped 4 gallons of pool shock, set the timer, and kicked on the filter.  Crazy what 4 gallons of pool shock will do to green pool water.

Ana has been lately wanted to run ‘free’ as a bird, without clothing, but usually just diaper-free.  In fact, she goes berzerk and rips her diaper off.  We’re in the process of potty training, so she’s in between diapers and pull-ups.  She needs a little more work and encouragement, b/c she usually wants to sit on the toilet after wetting her diaper.  It’s all about timing, so I’m sure she’ll get it mastered soon.  The flushing of the toilet and handwashing, she already likes to do, so it’s just a matter of time…

Sop slept over my parents home last night and we’re at Analise’s chemo appointment…  The temp dropped a little from yesterday, so all slept well.   Pool is a little cloudy, but no longer green!  I need to add some algaecide and we should be good to go.  The previous homeowners installed the pool and is among our many ongoing projects.  Here’s a tip for prospective pool owners, it’s like a summer-long science/chemistry project of maintaining ph, vacuuming, and filter washing.  I’m surprised we do not receive Christmas cards from The Great Escape in Tinley Park.  Since moving in, I swear the only thing we haven’t replaced is the actual pool wall and pool liner.  I would have to say, they are very good over there and they are always eager to help you with your questions.

Gotta go, dr is in to see Analise… have a nice day and weekend.  God Bless!

05.21.09….Thank you to Silk family

Thank you to the Silk family for your gifts of prayer and hope for Analise.   Linda is a coworker of and sent Analise a gift through Jon Cabela.   Thank you to Linda, Bill, Erika, and Colleen for caring and praying for Analise.

We have so many thank you’s to do and appreciate everyone’s incredible kindness to Analise and our family.

Have a nice day and God Bless!

05.20.09… good weekend and ok week

Sorry for the lack of postings in the last week.  We’ve been out and about and doing so much.  Analise and Sophia continue to be a handful.  By all of our observations and of our family, friends, and neighbors, Analise is as active and naughty as the next 2yr old.    Sophia continues to push the limits with her whining and 4yr old tantrums when she doesnt get what she wants.  The joy of parenthood.

We spent some time with Jason, Michelle, Olivia, Alaina, George and Madonna at a nearby bowling alley for Olivia’s birthday.  Some of us might be better bowlers on the Nintendo Wii.   After some pizza, we served  a chocolate cake that Sophia and Analise  baked and frosted for Olivia.

Afterwards, we moved along to Tony Vergara’s birthday party.  While the party was set for 7pm, in filipino fashion, we arrived closer to 9pm…  It was a good to see and hang out with Tony, Michelle, Gerard, Joy, and their boys.   Sophia and Analise had a good time playing with Armando and Mateo.  They had a good time raiding the candy sitting on the St Nino alter until Michelle was kind enough to bring out bags of lollipops and chocolate.  Thanks to the Vergara’s and happy birthday to Tony.

Sunday, Melissa was out before 815am, so I got the girls together, dressed, and out to my parents.  Melissa’s parents were out for the weekend, so this was the first time I had to get the girls together myself in some time.  Most of the effort was spent calming them down from watching Melissa leave for work.  It took a few minutes with tv and juice until I got them to bathe.

I got them to my parents’ home where they lately have been checking on a litter rabbits.  I dropped off some lunch to melissa and headed back home to continue on my ‘space reclamation project’ aka unclutter the garage.

All in all, a good weekend and the week is starting off well.  We got our bikes and bike trailer out for the girls.  We rode around the neighborhood and stopped by Bill and Dana’s.  They were at the park hitting some softballs, so we headed over there for a bit.  After a few minutes between the baseball field and the playground, we headed back to their house to see their bunny.  Sophia and Analise have lately been entranced by rabbits / bunnies.  And no, we’re not getting one.  Between the 3 fish tanks, 2 x 100lbs dogs, our small pond, and our gold-capped conure, Penny, we’re good for pets…

I’ve got a bunch of names to still add onto our main site, so pardon my delay in recognizing more people from all the donations and the benefit.

Ok, back to work… have a good day and God Bless!

05.14.09…Sophia’s music assembly

Today was Sophia’s music assembly and ceremony for graduating preschoolers.  Sophia is only 4yrs old, so she’ll be in preschool for an additional year.  All very cute and entertaining performances by all the preschool classes.  At the end of the program, they talked about the fundraiser they held for Analise and allowed me to say a few words.  I wrote a few things down and probably rushed through it, but hopefully all the parents and staff were able to make out what I was saying.  The Immanuel Lutheran preschool and community have been very kind and supportive to Sophia, Analise, and our family.  I have to thank all the people who reached out during and after the program for their words of encouragement and vows to pray for Analise and our family.  Likewise, I would like to say that we’ll be thinking of all those who have recently shared their stories of loved ones who are coping with sickness.

All I can say is that with a positive attitude and a good support system, you can definitely make it through even the darkest of times.  While this is easier said than done, you have to look for the positive.

Gotta run, have a good day and God Bless!
